Welcome to the Temple of Eros

Welcome to the Temple of Eros.  We are happy you stopped by.  You will find a lot of information about our philosophy and practices here, as well as some information about how to walk this path with us.  Most people who stop by are interested in learning more about who we are and what we believe.  Although answering this question completely is way beyond the scope of this page, we have described a few ideas here that are at the core of the philosophy of the Temple of Eros.

We believe that embracing human nature brings us closer to the Divine, not further away from it.  We do not believe in the concept of "original sin," nor do we believe that human nature in inherently corrupt.  On the contrary, we believe that humanity is the beautiful manifestation of Divine presence and the more we can embrace it, the closer we get to the Divine.

We believe that the purpose of a religion is to help the individual understand themselves and their place in the world, experience a sense of communion with other people and the Divine, and to experience a sense of meaning to it all.  When a religion is based on love, acceptance, and personal empowerment, it serves to help elevate the individual to a place of wonder, peace, joy, and creativity.

On the other hand, when religion—despite its professions of love—is based on shame, intolerance, the subjugation of individual will, and describes human nature in terms of the "seven deadly sins," the result is what we see in the Western world today—depression, aggression, fear, and a desperate sense of hopelessness.  It is our goal to help people climb out of the pit of this negative theology that alienates us from our nature and to help them find a more positive way of being.

We believe that Eros represents the primordial Divine spark of life as described in the Orphic mythology of the ancient Greeks.  Therefore, when we speak of the "erotic" it is in the sense of the Divine spark of life within us seeking expression in the world—our Eros.  This means that creativity, artistic expression, dancing, celebration, and passion are all expressions of the erotic.  The Temple of Eros is a group of men and women dedicated to embracing there erotic nature and to walk the path with others who seek to do the same.  We are a tradition of Wicca and embrace the concepts of the cycles of life and death, the inter-connectedness of all things, and the concept of polarities.
